School News

In preparation for the Lenten season the campus ministry department put together our very own “Holy Fat Tuesday”.
The campus ministry team and Mr. Muncy’s Jazz musicians
lead a costume parade at lunch time; they distributed religious wristbands and rosaries to the entire student body.  After
school they held a Feast Now Fast Later “Holy Fat Tuesday BBQ”. They sold steak fajitas, sausage sandwiches, salsa & chips and brownies. All proceeds went to the Hurricane Relief Fund
that the campus ministry department has been

collecting all year for Haiti and Cuba.

For Ash Wednesday Fr. Cyril Smith and the pastoral ministry
group held two prayer services for the entire school to
receive the blessed ashes.

The Pace Drama students preformed their award winning
pieces from District Competitions on February 18 and 19,
under the stars.  They did a great job and entertained and amused all those who came out to support these very
talented students.  They set up their stage in the “Pines”
behind the Hennessey Center with the stars and birds adding
to the lights and cameras magical feel. We wish the performers success in the International Thespian State Conference,
being held April 22 through April 25 in the Tampa Bay Area.

Sports

Our back-to-back State Champion Boys Basketball team

Dear Alumni and friends of Msgr. Pace High School,

 They did it!!!!

The boys’ basketball team won the Class 4A State Championship.  The score was 80 to 76, Pace vs. Lake Kathleen (yep, the same team from last year).  The Miami Herald had a great article on Sunday; this is some of what was stated:

“The Spartans (23-9) won back-to-back state championships for the first time and clinched their fifth title over all.  Pace’s athletic program has won at least one state championship for the 11th consecutive calendar school year.  The Spartans also join Northwest Christian as the only Miami-Dade County team to win back-to-back titles in both boys’ and girls’ basketball.  They are the sixth to accomplish the feat statewide.”

Special Thanks to everyone who went out to support our team.

BASEBALL

It was great having the 1978 Baseball Team here on Friday, commemorating 30 years since the 1st Baseball State Championship.  After presenting the team with a plaque which will be displayed on the “Wall of Fame” in the clubhouse, Mike Maitland (Class of 1978) pitched the ceremonial “first pitch”, and it was a bullet.  Varsity baseball coach, Tom Duffin (Class of 1985) asked Mike if he could put him in his team rotation.   It was a great night for Spartan baseball… and a great game.  Pace beat Belen 16 to 11.

DANCE LINE STARLETTES

The dance team has been very busy the last couple of weekends. They competed in the Miami Meltdown Competition where they came in 2nd in the Hip Hop division and 1st in the Varsity Team Performance division.  Next was the South Florida Show Down Cheer & Dance Championship where they took 1st place in both divisions.  This past weekend they competed in the NDA National Championship where they took 5th   in Hip Hop and Team Performance. Keep on dancing girls.  Congratulation!!!

Have a great week.

2-12-2008

Dear Alumni and friends of Msgr. Pace High School,We’ve got a lot happening around here; here are some updates and reminders!!

Boys Basketball:     The varsity team beat Belen 80-41 Saturday night to win our District Championship.  They will play Hallandale at home this Thursday night at 7 in the Regional Quarterfinals.  With a win we will play the winner of the Archbishop McCarthy/Belen Game on Tuesday the 19th.  That game may also be at home, it depends on the winner.  If they win that game they will advance to the Regional Final against either Glades Central, Suncoast, Cocoa, or Rockledge HS on Saturday the 23rd in a game that most likely would be at Pace.  These 3 games would advance the team to the State Final Four in Lakeland for the 6th straight year, and the 7th time in the last 11 years.  I will keep you posted and we hope to see the alumni at these games and we hope to make them proud by winning the school’s 5th state championship!

Boys Wrestling:      9 young men will be competing in the State Finals.  They are: Chris Fernandez, Julian Martinez, Diddley Weche, Keifer Scott, Thierry Bruno, John Sennet, Ke'darius Harris, Andy Quintana and Ronnie Dickens, Jr. They will be heading up to Lakeland, Florida Thursday ,February 14, 2008 and the meet will begin at 10:00 am and will run until Saturday with the finals.  Good Luck to our Wrestling SPARTANS…

Drama Club:   The Drama Club has wonderful news. The Drama students in the International Thespian Society went to District Competitions and received 5 excellent ratings. They now qualify for the State Festival and Competition. They will be competing with the most talented performers in the whole state. Our Juniors and Seniors even have the opportunity to receive scholarship money and even interview with colleges that are recruiting talented young performers. They are all very excited.

The Drama Club is also very excited about the next school production, Bye Bye Birdie. Bye Bye Birdie is one of the most captivating musical shows of our time. It tells the story of a 1950’s rock and roll singer (very similar to ELVIS) who is about to be inducted into the army. It is a funny show with lots great music such as Put on a Happy Face.  It will be a two night performance at the Hennessey Center on April 9th and 10th at 7:00p.m. The Advanced Jazz Band will be performing with us. Presale tickets are $6 and $8 at the door. Donations are greatly appreciated. Those who donate will be given special thanks and an ad in the plays program.

Boys Baseball will begin their season this coming week, go to www.viewmyschedule.com for a complete schedule for all the spring sports.

The adult softball tournament will be held next Saturday, February 23, 2008 beginning at 8:00 am. Don’t forget the 2008 FORD MUSTANG RAFFLE which will be held on Friday, February 29, 2008 after the boys baseball game again Belen. We still have some tickets available; call me if you would like to purchase one.

I wasn’t kidding when I said we had a lot happening, I hope you will be able to attend these events, if not please keep us in your prayers

1-14-2008

Dear alumni and friends of Pace High School,

Just a friendly reminder about the boys’ basketball game that will be televised on ESPNU this Tuesday, January 15th at 9:00 pm. The boys are ranked #1 in the State in the 4A Division and at the start of the season they were ranked 17th in the Nation.  Their record currently is 14-5 overall and 5-0 for the district. WOW. You gotta try and see these great athletes play! Tickets are still available.

In other sports news…..

The boys wrestling team will host their last home match on January 23rd, 2008 at 4:00 pm in the Pace gym. They will be wrestling Southridge High School and North Miami Beach High School.  They are having a great season, UNDEFEATED…Congratulations!!!!!

The girls’ softball team will be raffling a 2008 Ford Mustang as this year’s fundraiser.  It is a great opportunity to help the “Softball Lady Spartans” and at the same time win a car. Only 1300 tickets will be sold at $100.00 per ticket. Our alumnus, Head Coach Emilio Fernandez Class of 1979, has worked very hard in upgrading the girls’ softball field.  These funds will be used to put up lights on the softball field. If you are interested in purchasing a raffle ticket please let me know.  The raffle will be held February 29th, 2008 during the boy’s baseball game against Belen.

By now everyone should have received the latest Spartan Alumni newsletter. If you haven’t, please let me know so we can update your information.

Dear friends and alumni of Pace Highs School,

I just wanted to share some of the pictures of our Pastoral Ministry group celebrating Catholic Schools week, as they have been very inspiring with all of their hard work.  They started the week off with a prayer service in the newly remodeled center courtyard. The prayer warriors (those are the kids dressed in camouflage) went to each of the classes and read bible passages and lead the students in prayer.  Their presence was also felt at lunchtime, as the warriors stormed into the cafeteria and inspired us with prayer.

They gave out Christian music CD’s to all of the faculty and staff and M & M’s to the students who emulated Marist Moments. (The Marist Youth Society describe Marist Moments as when a person acts according to the teachings of Marcellin Champagnat)

It’s a wonderful thing to see the young people continue on in their Catholic faith.  We are very blessed at Monsignor Pace High School and thank God daily for our students.

Have a great Super Bowl weekend!!!

Dear Alumni and friends of Msgr. Pace High School,

THE FLORIDA WEST COAST GATHERING time has changed---the boy’s basketball game is now at 6:00 pm at Bishop Verot High School, December 18, 2006.  We will have the alumni get together after the game-around 7 or 7:30—it depends on how quickly the boys beat the other team.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call me.

Thanks
